Since I currently have this cake in oven, and this blog does have “cake” in the name, I thought it was probably time to jot down a few thoughts.
I’ve actually been thinking a bit about what I want to do with this site, but since I still don’t exactly know yet I just decided not to do anything ? Still, January 31 seemed like a good time to check in.
The good: We have a new president and vice president ? I know people, MULTIPLE people, who have had 1 or 2 doses of their COVID vaccine ? And, on a whim, I signed up for the Baked Potato 100 mile gravel race happening Idaho this September (COVID pending, of course). Pretty exciting all around.
The less good: Watching right wing white supremacists storm the US capitol on January 6th was pretty horrific. Trump is being impeached, again (so… good and bad?). And there are a variety of more contagious COVID strains that we haven’t figured out what to do with. So, pretty bad.
In my small bubble, life doesn’t look all that different. Obviously still doing some baking (partially inspired by watching a few episodes of Great British Baking Show and rummaging around the house to find a great lack of exciting dessert).
Putting in a lot of hours on the bike – both outside and on the trainer. Very much enjoying my BaseCamp community – a lot of motivation, support, and a TON of science/learning about training. A lot more learning than I thought or could have hoped for. And more personalization too. I was pretty dubious about the cost/set up, but I’m really glad I joined. We’re half way through, and I’ll be sad to see it end in March.
Working. Sleeping. Going on a mile walk every day this month. A distinct lack of skiing and climbing. Some reading. I’m trying to work through Sometimes A Great Notion, but I’m about 10-15% of the way through and still a bit luke warm on it…
Thinking about doing some volunteering, maybe virtually, in the bike world too. More to come…
