Chafing.

I’ve been one of the lucky few who typically doesn’t have chafing issues. Not while running, or biking, or anything else. I sweat PLENTY so not sure what’s up, but I’m not sad about it.

That being said, turns out something rubbed me the wrong way on the swim this weekend. Best guess? I accidentally left my necklace on under my wetsuit and maybe it wedged up?

Either way…. this thing hurts.

? A Three Spooort Day ?

So, we have a tentative date for The Picnic. And going by said date, Saturday was to be our last BIG day before we started tapering.

It only seemed fitting that we take a go at all three sports (swimming, cycling, and skiing) in one day to see how it felt. We couldn’t quite figure out a route that would let us do it without driving, but, oh well.

This was also the chance to test our new wetsuits on an open water swim. We drove out to Hood River with the intent to be in the water between … Continue reading

Back Handsprings!

I’ve been taking an Adult Gymnastics class at the Garden Home Rec Center, which has been awesome. Every Wednesday night at 7:15PM I head out to tumble and play with some other really amazing people. It’s been so fun, and a very different form of cross training.

I was a gymnast as a kid, but haven’t taken classes since I was in middle school. Apparently they think most adults don’t want to do gymnastics, but I actually suspect they’re wrong…

Anyway, I finally almost have my back handspring back! It’s been YEARS!

I’m stoked!!

Fear Based Training

That image is from THIS ARTICLE which is definitely worth a read.

Essentially it’s the idea that when you commit to do something harder (running 50+ miles, climbing Mount Rainier, swimming 10mi in open water, etc) there’s a different type of training that happens, as opposed to when your goal is just “lose 5 lbs because I’ll fit into my jeans better”.

That being said, it’s actually been pretty fun to train for something that I have NO IDEA if we’ll complete.

McKenzie Pass

Okay, I’ll admit it. I like Instagram. I like following people and seeing their lives in pictures and videos. I like sharing my own that way too. And while I have exactly zero interest in Instagram influencers, I do follow a number of strangers who do cool outdoor things.

Instagram is how Paul and I discovered McKenzie Pass was unofficially open for the season. McKenzie Pass is down near Bend, OR and is closed in the winter for snow. Each spring it officially reopens to cyclists for about three weeks while crews finish final repairs to open it to … Continue reading

20 Tabor Laps

This is probably 19 Tabor laps too many, but that’s what I did today.

Five miles, 2,300ft of elevation gain, roughly climbing 5,500 stairs (it’s 282 to the tippy top, but I turn around before the final staircase).

Back when doing 8 laps made my calves cramp for several days straight, I would have laughed if you’d told me I’d be doing 20 laps in about 90min with just a couple quick breaks.

Is the definition of insanity and good training just the same thing… ?
