?‍♀️ Baby shark do do do-do-do-do

You’re welcome ?

So today was open water swim, take two. We’ve had pretend summer for the past few days, so temps have been in the 80s. That’s a really good thing for warming up the water (though, the extended forecast says we return to low 60s and rain next week…).

We’d been planning to do a swim in the Willamette as a closer option to the Columbia, but the sun really helped the shallower water here and it got a little “too hot”. The water during our Picnic attempt will probably average around 57 degrees (we hope, it’s currently … Continue reading

I DID IT!!

No. I didn’t do The Picnic. BUT! I got my back handspring! There is something mildly terrifying about throwing yourself backwards and hoping *hoping* your arms hold you up, and you’re actually strong enough, and you don’t land on your head and break your neck. But when it works (which it only does if you 100% commit) it’s so satisfying!

And, I landed my first EVER front tuck on the floor! As a kid, I did a lot of back handsprings (I even did them on the beam for a short time), but I never landed a front … Continue reading

Chafing.

I’ve been one of the lucky few who typically doesn’t have chafing issues. Not while running, or biking, or anything else. I sweat PLENTY so not sure what’s up, but I’m not sad about it.

That being said, turns out something rubbed me the wrong way on the swim this weekend. Best guess? I accidentally left my necklace on under my wetsuit and maybe it wedged up?

Either way…. this thing hurts.

? A Three Spooort Day ?

So, we have a tentative date for The Picnic. And going by said date, Saturday was to be our last BIG day before we started tapering.

It only seemed fitting that we take a go at all three sports (swimming, cycling, and skiing) in one day to see how it felt. We couldn’t quite figure out a route that would let us do it without driving, but, oh well.

This was also the chance to test our new wetsuits on an open water swim. We drove out to Hood River with the intent to be in the water between … Continue reading

Back Handsprings!

I’ve been taking an Adult Gymnastics class at the Garden Home Rec Center, which has been awesome. Every Wednesday night at 7:15PM I head out to tumble and play with some other really amazing people. It’s been so fun, and a very different form of cross training.

I was a gymnast as a kid, but haven’t taken classes since I was in middle school. Apparently they think most adults don’t want to do gymnastics, but I actually suspect they’re wrong…

Anyway, I finally almost have my back handspring back! It’s been YEARS!

I’m stoked!!

Fear Based Training

That image is from THIS ARTICLE which is definitely worth a read.

Essentially it’s the idea that when you commit to do something harder (running 50+ miles, climbing Mount Rainier, swimming 10mi in open water, etc) there’s a different type of training that happens, as opposed to when your goal is just “lose 5 lbs because I’ll fit into my jeans better”.

That being said, it’s actually been pretty fun to train for something that I have NO IDEA if we’ll complete.
